I’ve been building things since I was a kid. I used to like building models – cars, ships, that sort of thing. Then furniture and other larger stuff. Now whatever someone needs made out of wood. MP Woodworks is built on a simple philosophy: use quality materials, proven techniques, and take the time to do things right.

My focus is custom work, including furniture and objects, built-ins, cabinetry, and finish carpentry. I specialize in the smaller cabinetry and one-of furniture jobs that most large shops and contractors don’t like to touch. When it comes to furniture and objects, the sky’s the limit because most of these requests are one-offs built to specification. I’m not interested in trends or shortcuts. Just solid design, materials, joinery, and honest work that will last a lot longer than whatever’s popular this season.

When building furniture and other objects, I prefer to work primarily with domestic hardwoods like walnut, cherry, oak, and maple because they’re sustainably managed in this country, by and large, and in plentiful supply. We have some of the very best hardwoods in the world for building high-quality furniture and cabinetry right here in Pennsylvania and the surrounding states, and more mills and suppliers than I can name by memory. I tend to source most of my materials locally, within the state when possible, and as close to home as feasible, which it usually is. But I do use some very good suppliers outside of PA that are able to ship, which makes it nice when I can’t get something I want locally.
